My husband and I have always had a dream of full time travel. We just never thought it to be possible in our situation. We aren’t millionaires or have a nice trust fund. In life, we let these excuses fill our heads and keep us from accomplishing our dreams. It is human nature. As a child, you have big dreams of becoming an astronaut or even the president. As the years pass, you lose some of these great aspirations. Few of us keep these dreams and fight for them no matter what. I want to be a fighter and no longer settle.
So the dream has always been there. It has been the plan that had failed to come to fruition. This plan finally started forming on a trip we took to Florida. The trip was to help move my husband’s mother to Arizona. We were flying over, helping her pack, and planning on driving back to Arizona with a rental truck. One of our favorite things to do is take driving trips so we were excited to get on the road. During the trip, we talked about how much we enjoyed driving across the country. We discussed how nice it would be to have the freedom to travel in any direction we chose and not have a deadline on getting home. The conversations progressed and we were at our happiest with our talks of what we wished for the future. As it is with the end of most great trips, we were sad it was over. We were happy to be home but sad the journey was over.
As the days went by, instead of putting our travel conversations on the back-burner, we continued talking. But instead of just dreaming, we started accidentally forming a plan and discussing how it could be possible to travel full time. As with anyone, debt was the main topic. How would we pay off student loans and the credit card debt we had in a short period of time? So before we thought of how, we decided on giving ourselves a deadline. We chose October 1, 2019. October 1st was the date that we first started formulating a plan. We thought that three years was the most we wanted to wait to get our travel plans in motion. Once we had the date, we decided to use software we already had on our computer which gave us an option to place a time frame of paying debt. Once we broke down how much we would have to pay monthly, this crazy plan started becoming more attainable and not so crazy. These accidental plans bringing dreams to reality. Many great things in life happen purely by accident.
